NOTE: One step involves pulling power during a firmware upgrade. Long story short, after thinking I'll need to buy extremely overpriced ink now or throw out the printer and buy a new one, I did some digging and troubleshooting and managed to find some good posts online and was actually able to force my printer to downgrade again and my ink cartridges are again recognised and working like a charm! So, for my future reference and in case anyone else has this issue, I thought I'd make a post sharing what worked for me. All the ink cartridges had an "X" on them and I couldn't print anything. Anyway, it wouldn't ever let me get past that page into the menu system, it was stuck on that page and the 'how to reinstall' page. Please ensure you are using Epson ink and re-insert," Something like that. The printer rebooted and all it said was (I don't remember exactly) "Maintenance Error, the inserted ink is not recognised. Immediately after upgrading the 3rd party ink cartridges I use were no longer compatible.
